TMSdi
Team Management Systems Development International
At the heart of the TMS approach to team development is a personalised report on each team member, based on completion of a detailed questionnaire. This provides a powerful starting point for discussion and development in the workplace. Written in straightforward, positive language, it provides valuable insights into the way people prefer to approach work, and their preferred role within a team.
Assigning the wrong person to the task, putting together an imbalanced team or failing to resolve conflict, can have costly consequences. The Team Management Profile can be used to give individuals and teams the key to their own development. By enhancing their knowledge and understanding of the world of work, and giving them a simple language with which to communicate, you can help them to achieve:
- Enhanced personal effectiveness through self-understanding
- Understanding of individual preferences within a team context
- High-performing teams
- Better team leadership and lateral management skills
- Higher levels of organisational achievement
Unlike some psychometric instruments, which look at an individual’s total behaviour including their home life, the TMS profile questionnaire reflects research which shows that people often behave very differently at work. Developed by international management consultants Charles Margerison and Dick McCann, thoroughly researched and validated internationally and at all levels of seniority, the profile is based on Carl Jung’s original work and looks at how individuals approach work on four graded scales. It avoids the twin shortcomings of focusing unduly on an individual in isolation from his work role, or of becoming preoccupied with the role and ignoring the individual. On the established basis that people tend to become more proficient at those activities they prefer doing, it proved possible to relate particular personality characteristics to particular types of work, and thus to identify the key roles needed for balance and diversity…the heart of a high performing team.
Armed with the individual profiles, a facilitated group workshop can tackle a wide range of issues…from resolving conflict to enhancing cross-cultural team working, from leadership development to project team design, from problem-solving to customer relationship management, and many more. The Team Management Profile can also be combined with other profiles – Linking Skills, Team Performance, and Types of Work – to provide a long term development tool.
