Julia Clarke

Julia is an Associate of LeaderShape Ltd.

Julia is a qualified executive coach and experienced facilitator. She specialises in delivery of tailored Board and senior management development programmes in the context of strategy development, and in times of significant organisational change and stress.

After taking degrees in Geography and Economics at Oxford University and an early career as a Government economist Julia spent a period in market research before establishing her own transport consultancy. This led on to the creation of the Rail Freight Group, an influential industry body active in protecting the interests of rail freight during the privatisation of the railways including the achievement of an amendment to national legislation. Julia held a non executive post on the Board of English Welsh and Scottish Railway and later became Executive Director Freight at the government Strategic Rail Authority. She currently maintains her transport interest through membership of the First Great Western Advisory Board.

In 2004 Julia undertook a fundamental Strategic Review for the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust leading an extensive engagement programme with staff and stakeholders including all the different clinical specialties, professions and staff groups as well as commissioners, health system colleagues, external representative bodies and interest groups. Subsequently Julia has been involved in a number of projects covering marketing in the NHS and service redesign.

Currently Julia chairs the Ridgeway Partnership – a specialist Learning Disability NHS Trust based in Oxford and has had a leading role in taking the organisation through a journey of change towards Foundation Trust Status. She is also Chair of governors at a special school for children with social, behavioural and emotional difficulties.

Julia’s senior and Board level roles have contributed to a rich experience of leading teams and organisations through periods of change and development both driven by the external environment and internal imperatives. This has included significant cultural change and changes to senior appointments. It has also given her first hand experience of working in senior teams and on boards and has contributed to a special interest in supporting women in leadership roles.

Julia now draws on this experience to enrich her coaching and facilitation as well as to bring an array of tools, techniques, case studies and examples to populate tailored organisational and individual development programmes. Julia is also a qualified practitioner in MBTI steps 1 and 2 and in Team Management Profile.
