Shaping a Performance Enhancing Business Culture.

Identify the ideal culture and then undertake a leadership development programme that will get you there.

By uniquely integrating the research findings of several seminal works related to culture and leadership, LeaderShape has developed a unique approach to shaping (or re-shaping) the culture of an organisation. The first step is to identify the actual and ideal culture of the organisation by carrying out the unique LOCS (LeaderShape On-line Culture Survey). Once this is completed a series of workshops are held to first identify the key steps that need to be made and then to support their implementation.

LeaderShape is a team of business leaders with huge experience in the fields of Neuroscience, Emotional Intelligence and Transpersonal Leadership. As thought leaders they believe that leadership development only happens through embedding new habits and have developed LOCS as a proprietary tool for identifying the current and ideal culture of an organisation.

Shaping culture is also an important element within LeaderShape’s “Journey to Leadership Excellence” programme during which participants learn to understand the culture of their own organisation and how it could be improved for greater sustainable performance. This is a good way to build awareness of a possible need to change the culture.

Benefits to Participants:

  • A better place to work.
  • Enables everyone to be more effective.
  • Supports continuous improvement.
  • Allows everyone to enjoy their work.

Benefits to Organisations:

  • Produces improved sustainable performance.
  • Aids improvement  retention of staff and decreasing absenteeism.
  • Increases productivity.
  • Aids the development of employees – increasing human capital value.

Typical programmes:

Culture Survey leading to Culture Change.

  • Assess the demographic of the organisation and decide who should complete the LOCS on-line survey.
  • Complete survey and analyse findings, especially differences between “actual culture” in different parts of the organisation, the difference between “Actual” and “Ideal” culture, and commonality of “Ideal” in different parts of the organisation.
  • Identify the key areas where change will make the most significant difference and supported by the most people surveyed.
  • Run a series of workshops to provide appropriate learning and interventions to support successful implementation.
  • Monitor and measure change.

Master Class Module on Shaping Culture.

This module is intended to create awareness of what is required of leaders to shape a new culture and is usually preceded by modules on 'Understanding the Essence of What Leadership is' and 'Awareness of the Importance of Emotional Intelligence and Leadership Styles.

The following are the essence of the learning:

  • That top leaders do not usually produce organisational performance directly but through setting the right climate which provides the environment for a performance enhancing culture to develop.
  • Culture can be defined best in a combination of the four parameters of Power, Structure, Achievement and Support. While organisations differ widely in their Actual culture, our experience is that most people in most organisations have the same view of the Ideal culture.
  • There is a direct link between the leadership styles of the top leaders and the culture of the organisation.
  • Success in shaping culture depends on a contract between leaders and individuals where each commit to the other and expectations are clearly understood.

Suitable for:

  • LOCS (LeaderShape Online Culture Survey) must have the commitment of senior management to do something about the findings – otherwise the result will be worse than not starting!
  • The 'Shaping Culture' module is suitable for everyone who manages other people but should start with the understanding and commitment to change of the senior management.

Why measure both the Current and Ideal Culture of the Organisation?

Most culture surveys just give a momentary snap shot of the perceived culture of an organisation. Identifying the ideal culture provides additional benefits:

  • Clear, early identification of significant differences.
  • A rich engaging dialogue to find the best 'ideal' culture is established and owned throughout the organisation.
  • It provides an opportunity for senior leaders to explain and influence other levels as well as listening to diverging opinions.

LOCS provides the ideal opportunity to create a process that engages the maximum number of people in contributing to the necessary changes.

Coffee Break.

Can you help your staff control their bosses?

Slimline management structures can cut costs. But if there’s more than one boss in the mix, everyone in the hierarchy assumes they’re the most important. Work pressures can mushroom. Is this what it feels like for your staff?
